Global Smartphone Shipments Fell to 1.2 Billion Devices in 2022

According to a report by Canalys, an analytical agency, global smartphone shipments decreased by 11% in 2022 and amounted to less than 1.2 billion devices. In the fourth quarter of last year, shipments fell 17% year-on-year. In addition, the demand for premium mobile devices began to decline. Manufacturers are forced to cut costs in order to adapt to the new market reality.

Apple's share in the smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2022 increased to 25%, followed by Samsung (20%) and Xiaomi (11%). The top five also included OPPO and vivo — 10% and 8% of the market, respectively.

According to Canalys, smartphone vendors have struggled to overcome difficult macroeconomic conditions, with the full year 2022 and its fourth quarter indicators being the worst in a decade. According to Canalys forecasts, the smartphone market is expected to grow slightly in 2023.
